When we toured in North America it was not unusual for us to play at ‘House Concerts’. I’ve always been amazed that they’ve not really taken off in the UK. The idea behind them is simple. We come to your house and play a show. Either two forty-five minute halves or 1hr 15 minute show. Together we invite loads of people; friends, family and fans. The concert is a roaring success and everyone goes home happy. Sometimes the host puts on some food and a bit of drink… usually the audience bring a bit of food and drink too… potluck style… You might get to meet new people. So there is music, singing, drinking, mingling, maybe a bit of dancing and perhaps some selling of the band’s merchandise.
We need a few people willing to share their homes. We’re looking for shows all over Scotland and the North of England in November and in March 2013. If you are interested in hosting a house concert, here are some questions:
- How big is your living room? Can 30-50 people fit comfortably?
- Is there enough parking nearby for 20-30 cars?
- Is it okay to make some noise? The show won’t be amplified, but we don’t want to upset the neighbours. (A way round this is to invite your neighbours!)
- Is alcohol okay? Some folks may want to bring beer (hopefully homebrew!) or a bottle of wine. I will of course ask everyone to drink responsibly and treat your home with respect.
- Do you have a small table where I can put merch?
- Can you check everyone’s ID at the door and match it to a list we’ll send you? All ticket sales will be online… unless you’d rather do cash sales at the door.
